The brace consists of a foot component and a lower leg component joined by a brace ankle joint. The foot component consists of a sole that can be cut to size and a foot stirrup. The lower leg component consists of the brace ankle joint, the bars and the calf shell with the strap. Adjustments to the brace are made by angling the bars.

The brace is intended exclusively for orthotic fittings of the lower limbs and exclusively for contact with intact skin.
The brace must be used in accordance with the indications.

Indications:

  • Unicompartmental knee osteoarthritis
  • Bicompartmental osteoarthritis of the knee
  • Conditions/injuries requiring unicompartmental relief (e.g. post-operative treatment following meniscus reconstruction or ligament injuries which require unilateral relief)
  • The indication must be determined by the physician. The following indications require consultation with a physician: skin dis eases/injuries; inflammation; prominent, swollen scars; reddening and hyperthermia of the treated limb; pronounced varicose veins, especially with impaired return flow; lymphatic flow disorders, including unclear soft tissue swelling distal to the body area where the device will be applied; sensory and circulatory disorders in the legs, e. g. associated with diabetic neuropa thy.

The product is designed for a maximum lifetime of 2 years.

Mechanism of Action:

The brace reduces the varus or valgus moment on the knee joint depending on the selected brace.
Two mechanisms influence the extent of the varus moment on the knee joint. The rigid bridging of the ankle joint in the frontal plane initially reduces ever
sion in the lower ankle joint. Adjustable forces are simultaneously transferred to the lower leg region at the lateral contact point of the brace.

In the treatment of medial osteoarthritis of the knee (brace bar lateral), this effect shifts the vector of the ground reaction force laterally. This immediately results in the reduction of the varus moment in the knee joint and relief for the medial compartment. In the treatment of lateral osteoarthritis of the knee (brace bar medial), the force transmission point is shifted in the medial direction. This increases the varus moment and reduces the valgus moment in the knee joint, relieving the lateral compartment. Strain can be relieved on either the lateral or medial compartment, depending on the selected brace.

Selecting the size:

Determine the height of the lateral malleolus, including existing orthope dic insoles. Select the appropriate brace size.
Verify that the calf shell is at least 3 cm below the fibular head. If the calf shell extends closer to the fibular head, select the next smaller brace size.
The product may only be molded by qualified personnel. Do not make any improper changes to the product. Always apply the product according to the information in the instruc tions.
