Degenerative changes of the intervertebral discs and facet jointsaccount for the majority – around 42 percent – of mechanical backpain. Indications such as osteoarthritis of the facet joints areparticularly unpleasant. The causes can be wear and tear of theintervertebral discs or a reduction in the height of the discs.
